Northern Art: 26 May 2016

Hello everyone!

The next Northern Art is fast approaching and we’re really excited!

It’s on May 26, from 7PM to 10PM, at Theatre Delicatessen on The Moor. As always, it’s free to come along, and you can pay what you like after each show. We hope to see you there! If you want to know more, read on for some official-sounding information!

This May, Sheffield-based company Charlotte and Tim will be presenting Northern Art, a night of up-and-coming local and Northern performers showing off their work. Headlining the night is award-winning company Stitch Theatre’s show about heroes, from legendary heroes to today’s film stars, Rise to Vertex, fresh from its tour around the North; along with Dawn Robinson’s When I see you I think of… dentist, a topical comedy about immigration, returning to the North after touring to London.

Charlotte and Tim, who are resident artists at Theatre Delicatessen on The Moor, created Northern Art to showcase talent from Sheffield and the North.  Northern Art first ran in December 2014, and has welcomed over thirty brilliant new artists to the Sheffield stage. Following the first event’s success, Charlotte and Tim have continued it in association with the O2 Think Bigger fund.

Northern Art was born when Charlotte Blackburn and Tim Norwood realised how few opportunities there were to show their work in Sheffield. Inspired, they teamed up with Theatre Delicatessen, who had recently taken over the old Woolworths on The Moor, to create a chance for people at the start of their careers to show their work without risking losing money by paying to hire a venue. In the same way, Charlotte and Tim want anyone to be able to come to Northern Art: that’s why it’s free for all to attend, and audiences are asked afterwards to pay what they think the night was worth.

According to Charlotte, “We’re really excited to bring these incredible artists to the people of Sheffield. Every Northern Art has a different set of artists on offer, but it’s the amazing audiences that come along who always make it an unforgettable night with a great atmosphere.”

Northern Art will happen at Theatre Delicatessen, 17 The Moor, Sheffield, S1 4PF from 7PM to 10PM, on Thursday 26th May. The event is being presented with support from Theatre Delicatessen, O2 Think Bigger, and local Sheffield businesses.

Praise for previous Northern Art events:

The evening was full of ambition and emotion; exciting work by inspirational artists who clearly found an enthusiastic Sheffield audience who appreciate their original and ground-breaking work.”
